Dangerous or toxic toys can still be found on America’s store shelves, according to a Maryland Public Interest Research Group’s 26th annual Trouble in Toyland report.

Scientists are uncovering a growing body of evidence that the widespread use of chemicals in our society harms our health and the health of our children. In this report, we tell the story of the insidious impact of toxic chemicals, from the plastic ingredient bisphenol A to pesticides, reviewing more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers.

In response to continued public concern over the presence of dangerous chemicals in common household products, coupled with Congressional inaction on the matter, on Wednesday, January 19, legislators and advocates in thirty states across the country and the District of Columbia will announce legislation aimed at protecting children and families from harmful chemicals.

A first-ever analysis of votes on state laws aimed at protecting the public from toxic chemicals found that 18 states have passed 71 chemical safety laws in the last eight years by an overwhelming margin with broad bipartisan support.
