Dear Maryland PIRG member,

The legislative session is a hectic time for the Maryland PIRG staff.

My own days start early and end late, and sometimes I think that it’s my morning workout with my gym buddy that keeps me sane.

What gets me out of bed and what keeps me going is knowing that in the course of a 90-day session we can win in spite of industry opposition, and help enact legislation that will make Maryland a healthier, more just, equitable place to live and work.

For example, the energy efficiency legislation we helped pass will prevent two large power plants from being built in the state and will help hundreds of thousands of Maryland households take steps to lower their utility bills. That makes a real difference in people’s lives.

And in the end, I love what I do. I like a good fight and thrive on the challenge of standing up to powerful industry lobbyists and winning.

Thank you for supporting our work.
