Current Campaigns

Product Safety

While most toys on store shelves are safe, we continue to find toys that pose a range of safety hazards to small children. Exposés by Maryland PIRG and our allies have prompted recalls or regulatory action on over 100 toys. More.

Internet Freedom

The largest telephone and cable companies are trying to limit our Internet access by deciding who and what gets priority. Their plan is to force Web site operators to pay a premium for faster service even though it costs providers nothing to give everyone equal access. More.

Stop Identity Theft

Your personal financial information is bought, sold and traded by corporations without your permission or knowledge. Everyday, banks, credit card companies and other institutions trade sensitive data such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, checking account numbers, average account balances, credit limits, and credit insurance status. More.

Overview

In our advertising-saturated society, consumers can have a hard time knowing what they’re getting, whether it’s at the grocery store or surfing the Internet. Powerful special interests often overwhelm the interests of the public. Right now, Maryland PIRG advocates on behalf of consumers to make sure dangerous products are taken off the shelves and that the Internet remains equal-access to all consumers.

Maryland PIRG Policy Advocate Johanna Neumann releases the 20th annual toy safety report. PIRG research has prompted over 100 recalls or regulatory actions to address unsafe toys.
