Today I released our 28th annual report identifying dangerous toys and documenting the ways that we can choose safe toys for our children. As my friends begin having children, I’ve found this information invaluable while shopping for gifts.

Our work has been instrumental in winning stronger rules to protect our children. Toys are safer than ever… But there are some “toys to avoid”.

This year, our staff uncovered:

  • Toys that are too small and lack the proper warning labels, posing a dangerous choking hazard for young children.
  • Hazardous levels of lead and phthalates, despite the documented risk and subsequent limits on these chemicals.
  • Toys that are loud enough to cause permanent hearing loss in young children.
