Letter	Our children deserve to be protected from dangerous chemicals that threaten their health and development. Scientific research suggests that decaBDE, a flame retardant chemical used in a variety of household products, can impair learning and memory, cause reproductive failure, affect metabolism, and cause liver tumors. The Maryland General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in 2005 to phase out the use of pentaBDE and octaBDE because the science was clear that our children's health was at risk from these chemicals. Now that we know decaBDE breaks down into pentaBDE and octaBDE from exposure to sunlight and bacteria, we must remain consistent and pass a law this session to phase out the use this equally dangerous chemical. PLease pass legislation to phase out the use of toxic Deca-BDE. Sincerely,
